OUR STORY

It all started in 1991. High school sweethearts Tim and Michelle Muys met in grade 10 in Winnipeg.  They graduated high school and began studies for what they thought, would be their future careers. In 1994 they married. Tim spent 8 years at the University of Manitoba pursuing a degree in Environmental Design. Michelle spent two years towards a nursing degree at the University of Winnipeg. While attending university, Tim held at least two jobs at any give time, and for a short time, was working as many as four jobs. In addition to mowing lawns for the company they would later call Green Blade Lawn Care, Tim spent 10 years at Canada Safeway having worked in all 36 stores in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario at the time, in virtually every role right up to assistant store manager before leaving at the age of 26. Michelle worked at the Westin Hotel for five years before taking a position at Air Canada where she worked for 10 years.

By 1996 the lawn mowing business had somehow grown large enough to warrant a business name, and Green Blade Lawn Care was born and later incorporated in 2001. In 1999 their first child, Declan, was born and Tim decided to quit Safeway to grow Green Blade full time. Cole was born in 2001, Gabrielle in 2004, and Brycen in 2009. In 2005 Michelle quit Air Canada to devote her time to her growing family and to support Tim in running the family business. By 2007 Green Blade was a million-dollar company, just 4 years later it crossed $2 million. Today, Green Blade Lawn Care is the largest lawn care company in Manitoba with sales in the millions operating out of a 7.5 acre yard with over 50 trucks, mountains of equipment, and thousands of customers and it has spun off multiple new businesses.

Tim & Michelle are 29-year veterans of the industry.  Tim is regularly featured on radio, has contributed numerous magazine articles, served with Landscape Manitoba, been an advisor to the City of Winnipeg, and contributed to the internationally distributed lawn care magazine Lawn & Landscape.  Tim, Declan, and Cole all hold their Manitoba Pesticide Applicators Licenses and have IPM certification in Manitoba.  In the coming months they will also have their Alberta Pesticide Applicators Licenses.

Consummate entrepreneurs, the Muys Family now owns and operates several businesses, employing over 300 people annually, with more businesses in the works. Declan and Cole now work full time alongside their parents in the family businesses.  In all, they currently own six businesses in Manitoba, one in Calgary, Alberta, and they are in the process of launching a marketing agency that will be based in Winnipeg.  They are also in the midst of launching a leasing company and a bespoke limo service, both of which will be based in Mexico.  And there are more businesses on the horizon already in development.
